Pizza Sauce recipe
I had some friends over for dinner and drinks last weekend and they asked me to share how I made my pizza sauce, so here it is.
At the risk of becoming a food blog, I was asked to share this recipe for pizza sauce that I made last weekend. It's pretty straightforward. It will take about 15 minutes to prepare.
Ingredients
- 1 can of chopped tomatoes
- 30ml red wine
- 2 teaspoons of sugar, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon of salt, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper, or to taste
- 1 teaspoon of Italian herb blend, or to taste
Equipment
- An appropriate saucepan
- Spoons for tasting
How to make it
- Add the can of chopped tomatoes to an appropriate saucepan and set it onto a low heat.
- Add half the wine, and half the suggested sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir everything through and let it cook a little while. Don't boil.
- Taste how things are, and add salt, sugar, wine, pepper, as needed to adjust the overall balance.
- Add in the Italian herbs and continue cooking. Remember that you don't want to boil the sauce, but make sure it's hot.
- Taste again and adjust the seasoning as required.
Once you're done, allow it to cool completely and you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3 or 4 days.
